Many question linger about the death of the woman whose body was found on a Wedgwood street early Friday.
For now, however, we do know this: Her name was Maria Baril and she was 40 years old. She was a loving mother of two children and lived on the Eastside. She was a sister, a daughter and had many friends.
What we don’t know is how she died (which is still being investigated by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, though they continue to rule out foul play). Nor do we know what she was doing in Wedgwood, where she was found by a couple walking their dog at 6:30 a.m. on the side of the road in the 9100 block of 27th Avenue NE.
“She was loved and will be greatly missed,” said her brother Bart Baril on Monday morning. “And we are all anxious to hear more about what exactly happened.”
A Facebook page was set up Sunday in her honor. Several friends and relatives have posted messages, describing her as a loving mother and good friend.
Bart Baril said his sister grew up in Bellevue, Kirkland and Redmond. Her Facebook page shows she was a member of the page for Juanita Elementary Class of 1981. A couple of messages also indicate that she might have been ill recently. However, Bart said he was in the dark as much as everyone else about the details surrounding her death and was awaiting details from investigators.
UPDATE 3-16-10: Further tests have been ordered, which means the cause of death will not be known for six to 10 weeks, said a spokesman for the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. Typically, when further tests are ordered it’s for toxicology studies, the spokesman said, and they are requested from the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab. Also Tuesday, the Facebook page listed above has been either taken down or made private.
