Among all the exciting developments going on at Magnuson Park — a new, multimillion indoor soccer facility, new indoor tennis center, new turf sports fields, low-income housing — this one might have the biggest impact yet on the community: a new $21 million pediatric dental center.

Opening Sept. 1, the Center for Pediatric Dentistry, located at 6222 NE 74th St., is a partnership of the University of Washington School of Dentistry, Seattle Children’s hospital, Washington Dental Service and Washington Dental Service Foundation.

The center expects 30,000 visits the first year and will be using a whole new model for pediatric dentistry aimed helping keep kids out of the dental chair in the first place. The new center’s goals and what is driving the effort are outlined in an article by our news partner The Seattle Times.
