Almost 3 months after the NE 45th Street Viaduct was closed for a major overhaul, the road reopened this morning to vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. Representatives from SDOT, the University Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Washington were on hand for a ribbon cutting to mark the end of construction.

“Being under budget and a little ahead of schedule will hopefully boost the confidence in which the citizens have in the city,” said SDOT Director Peter Hahn.

The Husky Helmet Car had the honor of being the first vehicle to cross the improved viaduct. SDOT wanted to wrap the project up before the first home football game at Husky Stadium tomorrow.
