Train with the Sound Steps Team!

Join the Sound Steps team and train with other adults age 50+ to complete a 5K, 10K or Half Marathon Walk!

These free Saturday morning training walks will happen from February through June in north Seattle and will prepare you to accomplish your goal.

These classes are open to all fitness levels.

Airbnb Hosting Just Got a Little Bit Easiser

Broadcast Coffee, Bus Stop Espresso and Fix Coffeehouse (all local coffee shops) have taken on Keycafe, a new key exchange service that was recently featured on NBC’s local King 5 News, to help out the local Wedgwood and View Ridge communities. These local businesses are now further helping the people in the neighborhood manage their lives, themselves benefitting through the resulting increased international foot traffic.

Access to water temporarily closed at Magnuson Off-leash Area

Toxic algae scum spotted in Lake Washington

As a precaution, Seattle Parks and Recreation has temporarily closed access to the water at the Magnuson Park dogs off-leash area.

Toxic algae has been found in accumulated scum in Lake Washington along the shores of the off-leash area. Toxic algae blooms are most common in the summer and fall, but can occur any time.

King County Department of Natural Resources collected water samples and submitted them to the State Toxic Algae Program. The information was reviewed by Public Health

North Seattle Fives Cooperative School Open House

Location: 5515 Phinney Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98103

North Seattle Fives Cooperative School is now accepting applications for the 2015-16 school year. The school is hosting an open house for prospective students: from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.

The school is located inside St. John United Lutheran Church, 5515 Phinney Ave. N. (use the back entry).

Students attend school four days a week, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

North Seattle Fives is designed to meet the needs of children who are too young for kindergarten or who would benefit from another year before starting kindergarten. The classroom, located across the street from Woodland Park Zoo, is designed to provide a stimulating, hands-on environment for the children. Enrollment: Capped at 20 children, and is limited to children who will turn five years old by Dec. 31, 2015, but occasional exceptions occur.

Deadline for registration is February 14, 2015.
