Coffee and Seattle go hand in hand, and the culture keeps this rainy city awake. There are so many places to go and get a good cup of coffee in the Wedgwood area, with great atmosphere and some interesting food. There are new shops and pop-up stores opening up all the time which adds to the thriving community. The rise of coffee shops and cafes in Wedgwood has been happening since the 1940s-50s, in the post-war period.

VAN GOGH COFFEEHOUSE

As the name suggests, this coffeehouse is wonderfully artistic and has a great atmosphere. If you try adding salt to your cup of coffee, this place is always accommodating. Salt helps to tame the bitterness in coffee and makes it taste delicious. There is parking, if you are just popping in to pick up breakfast in the morning, or staying for a longer lunch. The coffee house is a favorite with dog walkers, as even your furry friends are offered a treat here.

CAFE JAVASTI

Located on 87th and 35th Avenue, Cafe Javasti is extremely popular with locals, not just for the delicious Java, but also the creperie. You can go for a breakfast option of ham, swiss and spinach, or cooked apple, sugar and cinnamon for dessert. They also offer gluten free options. Their coffee is supplied by Batdorf and Bronson the coffee roasters, based only in Olympia Washington. There are often open mic nights at the cafe and the menu changes regularly.

CAFE KOPI

Cafe Kopi offers some great sandwich and soup options, as well as some delicious coffee and tea. They were previously the Sugar Shack Baking Co., and are offering many of those delicious muffins. You can also get some excellent smoothies and juices, including the popular Green Monster Juice.

GRATEFUL BREAD

What goes better with delicious coffee than a cinnamon bun (or two). They use local ingredients, organically produced in all of the goods that they sell. Located on 35th Avenue, the shop is conveniently placed, with plenty of parking nearby. They offer many different types of coffee including espresso, mocha and Caffe Vita drip coffee. There are also Numi teas available. The Grateful Bread are really supportive of local artists and often have exhibitions.

CLOUD CITY COFFEE

It is also very much worth mentioning Cloud City Coffee, just up the road in Maple Leaf. You can easily lose a happy afternoon on the comfy couches, reading books from their lending library. There is also free Wifi, if you’ve got to catch up on your emails while you’re there. The Mexican Mocha is a particular treat.

Wedgwood has an amazing array of places to get coffee. These shops not only provide great things to eat and drink, but also provide the community with great social meeting places.
