Now catering to Wedgwood's 3 a.m. crowd?

Since a new owner took over three years ago, Wedgwood’s quaint and stylish Van Gogh Coffeehouse has steadily been building a positive neighborhood buzz.

The panini sandwiches are getting a great reputation as are the breakfast sandwiches. So it was not a surprise to see a note taped to the counter announcing that the cafe was expanding its hours. Eye-catching, however, were the new opening times — 3 a.m. on weekdays and 4 a.m. on weekends — a full 3 hours earlier than current opening times.

“Wow — so you’re expanding your hours?” The question was met with a brief silence and a smile from the barista. “Yes, we decided to open up earlier — we made that decision today, April 1.”

Laughter ensued from the barista and a few customers. April Fool’s!

Janet Gibson, the barista and owner, said they’d been having a little fun with the joke all day, enjoying customers’ quizzical looks and questions. She also said she’s recently added a third barista during the breakfast and lunch rushes to better serve customers because lines have been getting longer, sometimes out the door.

So she encourages folks to stop in for breakfast or lunch. But please, she says, don’t come at 3 a.m.
