Seattle Audubon adds extra security after burglaries

The Seattle Audubon Society, in its summer newsletter, told members it was recently the target of multiple after-hours burglaries.

As a result we are installing increased security measures, including motion sensors, security cameras and a monitored alarm system.

The added expenses of these measures, as well as the loss of inventory and the cost of repairing the property damage, do create near-term challenges. But Seattle Audubon is committed to retaining an open, welcoming environment….Thank you for your continuing support.

Police reports indicated the Audubon store, at 8050 35th Ave. N.E., was hit the weekends of April 9 and April 16. The store, which caters to birders and naturalists, has one of the best selections of binoculars and other optics in the Seattle area.

Police reports also indicate two other nearby businesses were hit the weekend of April 16. In one case, the burglar left behind a metal flashlight, which detectives checked for fingerprints, the police report states.
