Do you want to write for a living? Teens and young adults, ages 16-24, can meet working professionals and learn how to get started in Seattle’s literary industry from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636.
Library programs are free and open to the public. Registration is required, visit onereel.org/literarycareerday. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $7.
Literary Career Day provides young people with direct access to industry professionals through networking, experiential learning, engaging conversations and performances. You’ll be exposed to a wide range of career opportunities, including: writing, editing, publishing, arts administration, retail, library sciences, journalism, teaching and more.
This event will start with keynote speaker and Seattle poet Anastacia Renée Tolbert, followed by lunch—free for all attendees—and a table fair featuring opportunities from local arts organizations. After lunch, attend the breakout session that’s relevant to your interests. We’ll finish off the afternoon with a networking party, featuring a live DJ, to help you get the most out of your Career Day!
Breakout session topics will include:
- Writer – Find out what it takes to be a professional writer from industry professionals.
- Money – See how money is raised, spent and earned in the literary industry.
- D.I.Y. – Learn about various D.I.Y endeavors, including venues, writers/readers, publishers and more.
- Industry – Discover and explore the professionals who work in the literary world – not primarily as writers, but whose creativity is vital to the writing community.
