A man in his upstairs Sand Point apartment accidentally shot his neighbor one floor below Friday afternoon, Seattle Police are reporting.
Officers responded to the apartment, in the 4000 block of NE 50th Street, at 1:30 p.m. after the neighbor, 44, was grazed by a shot to the forehead, police said. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The man believed to have fired the shot was booked into King County Jail on suspicion of reckless endangerment, police said. The suspect, in his 30s, according to a preliminary investigation by police, was putting a sling on his rifle while inside his apartment. The rifle was aimed downward, they said, with the barrel resting on the floor. After putting the sling on the rifle, the suspect pulled the trigger not knowing that the gun was loaded, police said.
A single round was discharged. SFD medics responded to the scene and transported the victim to Harborview. The rifle was booked into evidence.
