Drilling down

Curiosities have been piqued the past few days by drilling in the Black Pearl-Subway parking lot on the southwest corner of NE 75th Street and 35th Avenue NE.

Turns out the workers are drilling holes to get soil and ground water samples, part of regularly scheduled checks of the site because it formerly was a gas station, said workers and employees of businesses there.

Some onlookers were disappointed because they were hoping workers might be reconfiguring the layout of parking stalls in the lot, which can be difficult to maneuver in.
